Nancy Hellebrand

Although Nancy Hellebrand’s recent work is highly conceptual, focusing on patterns and surfaces found within nature, I can’t help but her love her ‘straight’ portraits from the 70s. The people that she chose to photograph look a little broken down, like they have experienced hard things in their lives, and the gloomy and dimly lit interiors only emphasize this. 
Nancy’s statement about her work and her life makes for an interesting read, giving us an insight into the progression of her photography that artists rarely seem to divulge.
